Šírka pásma zadržiavacieho pásma sa vzťahuje na šírku rozsahu zadržiavacieho pásma, teda na frekvenčný rozsah medzi vysokými a nízkymi medznými frekvenciami. Pásmové filtre majú rôzne miery útlmu, ktoré sa používajú na vyjadrenie stupňa útlmu signálu v rozsahu zadržiavacieho pásma v porovnaní so signálom v rozsahu priepustného pásma. Niektoré pásmové filtre môžu mať v rozsahu priepustného pásma vlnky, teda zmeny v zosilnení signálu v konkrétnom frekvenčnom rozsahu. Vlnky je možné riadiť návrhom a optimalizáciou filtra, aby sa zabezpečila kvalita signálu v rozsahu priepustného pásma. Pásmové filtre majú zvyčajne špecifickú vstupnú a výstupnú impedanciu, ktorá zodpovedá požiadavkám na impedanciu zdroja signálu a záťaže.
Pásmové filtre sa široko používajú v rôznych oblastiach, ako sú komunikačné systémy, audio zariadenia, zosilňovače, rádiové prijímače atď.
